A Cozy Weekend Getaway in Cannon Beach
View of Haystack Rock on a Monday in July
I adore a quick weekend getaway at least once a month — it’s like pressing a reset button on life. And for me, Cannon Beach is the easiest escape: just under an hour from home, but it always feels like a completely different world. This little coastal town has everything I need; cozy coffee shops, delicious seafood, moody sea views, and forest trails that feel like they were pulled straight out of Twlight.
Whether you’re local to Oregon or planning a visit, Cannon Beach is one of those destinations that balances cozy, small-town charm with rugged natural beauty. It’s the perfect place to slow down, disconnect, and just… exist. This itinerary is all about that kind of weekend. The kind where you sip coffee slowly, let your phone die, and maybe even finish a whole book without feeling rushed.
Day 1: Arrival + Settling In
Arrive in the afternoon or early evening and check into the Hallmark Resort & Spa — a stunning oceanfront, pet-friendly spot with jaw-dropping views of Haystack Rock from your balcony. Walking into one of their rooms and seeing that iconic view? It hits like Hozier’s yell in "Northern Attitude.” Yes, I just made a TikTok reference — if you know, you know. If not, click that hyperlink.
Once you’ve unpacked and let out that sigh of relief, head down to the beach for your first real moment of “ahh.” Stroll along the shoreline and keep an eye out for seabirds soaring around Haystack Rock. The lighting here in the golden hour is cinematic; everything glows beautifully.
For dinner, head to Wayfarer Restaurant. Pro tip: reserve a window seat ahead of time, for a time slot just before sunset. Watching the sun dip behind the horizon while sipping a cocktail and digging into fresh seafood, so romantic. Can you say main character moment?
End your night back at The Hallmark, cozying up by the fireplace with a blanket and your current read. If you’re looking for a book that matches the mystical, windswept vibe of Cannon Beach, I highly recommend A Far Wilder Magic — it’s moody, magical, and a little bit of a isolated feeling, in the best way.
Day 2: Cozy Coastal Explorations
Morning
Start your day slow. Because that’s the whole point, right? Wander down to Insomnia Coffee Co. for a warm latte (or if your like me, iced oat milk latte with a splash of vanilla) and a breakfast sandwich. Sit by the window or take it to-go and stroll along the beach. There’s something about the salt air and coffee combo that makes everything feel right in the world. P.S, please don’t leave your trash on the beach.
Next, hop in the car and take the scenic drive to Ecola State Park. You might even catch a glimpse of elk wandering through the forest. I’ve see many elk while here, especially in the spring and winter. The 7 miles worth of trails here offer incredible coastal views, old-growth forest magic, secluded beaches and the kind of quiet that makes your thoughts slow down a bit. Again, so peaceful.

Afternoon
After your hike, head back into town for a little wandering. Pop into local shops, visit Cannon Beach Book Co maybe grab a few new books. If the weather cooperates, put together a little beach picnic with snacks from Mariner Market. If it doesn’t? a picnic on your balcony at the Hallmark work great too!
A small bottle and wine and some cheese the perfect pairing for reading on your hotel balcony.
Later, take time to just… chill. Journal, read, or head back to Hallmark for a spa treatment. Even a short massage can reset your nervous system. Or, if you’re anything like me, maybe just take a hot shower and sit in a robe for an hour, that also counts as self-care too.
Evening
Dinner is at Pelican Brewery, where the vibe is casual and the beer selection is extensive. Sit by the fire pit outside if you can, order the fish and chips or the tacos, and people-watch while plotting your next creative project. At least that what I do.
Before bed, wander back out to the beach. Stargaze if it’s clear, or just enjoy the sound of the waves in the dark. If you booked the S’mores Package through the hotel congrats, you’ve officially won at a cozy weekend trip. Roast a marshmallow or two and soak in your coastal getaway.
Day 3: Slow Start + Farewell
You know the drill by now. No alarms. Sleep in a little, then step outside for one last quiet morning walk on the beach. The town is extra peaceful in the early hours, and it’s a great time to reflect, journal, or just *exist* without your phone in hand.
Make a final coffee run to Sleepy Monk Coffee Roasters — their brews are bold and cozy, paired with yummy pastries. It the perfect farewell coffee run.
Pack up your things and head out, but take the long way home. There’s a short hike just off Hwy 101 with an epic view over Treasure Cove that makes the perfect final stop. Watch the intense swells meeting the rocks down below. This is one of those places that remind you how powerful mother nature is and that it should be respected but also admired.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need a full week off or a packed itinerary to feel refreshed. Sometimes, all it takes is a weekend by the ocean, a good book, and permission to slow down. I do think that this kind of trip works best if you avoid visiting Cannon Beach in the summer months. It gets really busy, but with a few edits you can still make it work.
This Cannon Beach itinerary is all about making space — for yourself, your thoughts, and the little things that often get overlooked. I hope it inspires your next cozy escape.
